Transporting two 140-ton transformers from Ospitaletto (Brescia, Italy) to Radicatel (France) was no ordinary logistics challenge. This multimodal operation required a custom-engineered road transport solution, a perfectly synchronized barge transfer, and precise vessel coordination. From detailed route assessments to the seamless execution of each transport phase, DCS LIBURNUS orchestrated a mission where every second counted—delivering both transformers safely and efficiently to their final destination.

Where others saw roadblocks, we engineered breakthroughs

Analysis

The first major hurdle was the road transport from Ospitaletto to the Port of Cremona on the Po River. Due to the extraordinary dimensions and weight of the cargo, conventional out-of-gauge (OOG) transport was not feasible. Our team conducted an in-depth route study, identifying critical bottlenecks and engineering a specialized trailer configuration that could handle the load. This custom solution was not only safe and efficient but also marked the first-ever approval for such a configuration on this transport corridor—an achievement in itself.

Precision met speed: a flawless barge-to-vessel handover

Execution

Once at the Port of Cremona, both transformers were carefully loaded onto a chartered barge for the next leg of their journey. Precision was crucial: the barge had to reach Chioggia at the exact moment the MV Deo Volente arrived, minimizing the risk of demurrage costs. Thanks to meticulous pre-planning, the entire stowage operation, including unloading from the barge and securing the transformers aboard the vessel, was completed in under four hours—a remarkable feat that showcased seamless coordination and flawless execution.

Management

The success of this operation was the result of four months of careful preparation, involving constant communication between all stakeholders, real-time monitoring, and contingency planning to mitigate risks. Every aspect, from permits and road surveys to maritime scheduling and cargo lashing, was handled with absolute precision. As the MV Deo Volente set sail under a clear sky towards Radicatel, another DCS LIBURNUS success story was written—proving once again that no challenge is too big when expertise, planning, and execution come together flawlessly.
